Dear Thov,

Thank you for your letter of October 22, 1997, regarding the situation in Cambodia. As you know, I share your concerns and continue to monitor the situation closely. This deplorable act must not stand and I commend you for your personal activism and the efforts of the World Cambodian Congress. I'm sorry I was unable to attend your recent conference, but understand it was a great success.

I am looking into your request to have Hun Sen and those responsible for the crimes associated with July's coup d'etat in Phnom Penh declared persona non grata. I hope to have an answer for you soon. I am very concerned that the Administration is not doing all it can to right this terrible wrong.

Once again, thank you for your letter and your efforts to return peace, freedom, and democracy to Cambodia. People like yourself make a difference. Please feel free to contact me or my staff any time we can be of assistance.

With best wishes,
Sincerely,

Benjamin A. Gilman
Member of Congress
