2nd Meeting In Beaverton, Oregon August
22nd, 1999 The World Cambodian Congress (WCC) in the state of Oregon is pleased to announce our successful meeting on August 22nd, 1999. This success makes us proud of our understanding of WCC discipline, morality, and principles. First, WCC in the state of Oregon would like to express our thanks to our guest of honor and key note speaker, Professor Naranhkiri Tith, who made this meeting so interesting that many of our supporters felt so proud of him. Second, we would lice to express our thanks to WCC President, Vonnie Hong, and Northwest regional President, Woody Oung, for their effort and supports, and our supporters, especially, Doctor Sopha Hang who volunteered to be WCC's master of ceremony. The purpose of this meeting was to provide information to the Cambodian people in the state of Oregon about human right violation and corruption of the Royal Cambodian government in Cambodia Professor Tith who has first band knowledge of these issues was invited to give a speech. In addition, WCC President, Vonnie Hong, was also invited to provide information about WCC's background and history. After the " Killing Fields " took place in Cambodia, many Cambodian people continue to suffer from various causes such as tortured and abused by the government. Professor Tith said that Prime Minister Hun Sen does not want to change his brutality even though he claims he is no longer a Khmer Rouge. For example, on July 5th 1997, Mr. Hun Sen staged a bloody coup that caused hundreds of peoples' deaths. Another example was the July 1998 election. Perhaps, thousands of innocent pro democracy protesters were killed by Prime Minister Hun Sen's party before, during and after the election. This shows that the Cambodian government has no respect for human rights. Besides, Professor Tith also expressed his concerns that "there will be a bloodbath in Cambodia because there is a sizeable minority of Vietnamese coming illegally to Cambodia, and because right now the country has practically no border due to pervasive corruption and Hun Sen's allegiance to the Vietnamese. Within fifteen years, if this silent invasion is not stopped, Cambodia would become a Bosnia or Kosovo in Southeast Asia". In addition, Professor Tith also mentioned that the majority of the Cambodian leaders are corrupted because they only think of money for themselves. For example, after the rigged election in July 1998, Prince Norodom Ranaridh formed a coalition with Mr. Hun Sen because Hun Sen gave him 40 million dollars. This immoral act demonstrates the Prince does not care about justice for thousands of his supporters who were killed by Hun Sen's party. This is a shameful situation that WCC cannot tolerate. For King Norodom Sihanouk, Professor Tith made it clear that he can only do harm to Cambodia because he totally sided himself with Hun Sen due to his wifešs bad influence. Professor Tith also expressed his concerns over the deforestation that was granted by the current government. Deforestation causes drought or flood and it is bad for the country. This problem could lead to famine in the future. According to the above information, we, WCC, feel strongly that justice must be brought for the innocent Cambodians; otherwise, the evil killers never stop killing. Therefore, we encourage all the Cambodian people to stand up and work closely together so that our voice can be heard by the worlds' communities who will help us bring justice to Cambodia. We, WCC in the state of Oregon, were so happy that Professor Tith could come to our meeting and enlightened the audience. |
