Long Shadow of the
Cambodian Nation and its People; This
DVD presentation is a historical perspective and analysis on the development of
the Cambodian people and nation during the following periods: pre-Angkor
period (1st century 80-802), the Angkor period (802)-1431), the dark-age period
of Cambodia (1431-1779), the French colonialist period (1779-1953), and the
contemporary period (1953-present). The
presenter explores the chronological events of Cambodian history and how they
affect the current political, social,
and psychological problems of today. As
in any country in the world, history encompasses both the positive and
negative aspects of events, key personalities that shape the
course of history, and the consequences of their decisions. To diagnosis problems of today’s Cambodian society, we need
to study patterns of development to trace underlying causes.
The study of history is also subject to interpretation.
It is also important to note the credentials of the presenter (click to
see biography of Naranhkiri Tith, Ph.D.). The presentation is based on an
actual seminar, which took placed on October 5, 2003 in Portland, Oregon and was
hosted by World Cambodian Congress for Progress & Democracy (www.wccpd.org).
